 Press Releases

  • November 16, New Smyrna Beach, FL; Porta Products makes waves at the 2022 International WorkBoat Show, November 30 - December 2 in New Orleans.  When guests enter this year’s show they will be greeted with new boats, new outboard power, and many partnering with the Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift System.

Great new excitement in the WorkBoat market comes from the advent of the recently introduced heavy duty diesel outboards with horsepower ratings up to 300 hp each. American built OXE Marine’s OXE Diesel is the world's first high-performance diesel outboard engine built and designed for reliability, power, and control with demanding users in mind.  To utilize the high torque of the diesel powerhead, the bevel gears system, found in both outboard and stern drive solutions, has been replaced with a belt propulsor system. The dog clutch is substituted with an electro-hydraulically operated gearbox. This allows for seamless engaging speed, trolling capability and crash stop capability, increasing safety onboard while never losing powerful torque or speed. By reducing the complexity, environmental impacts, and fuel consumption to increase serviceability, reliability, and range, the OXE Diesel dramatically cuts operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions, to increase safety for both people and planet. With its easily accessible service points and modular design, 42% less fuel consumption, 35.5% less emissions, and 696 ft-lb torque at the propeller shaft, the OXE Diesel is a definitive contender to the new choice in outboard power.  The OXE Diesel is available in 150 hp, 175 hp, 200 hp, or 300 hp, in either a 25” or 33” midsection.

Always a challenge in a work boat application is to have the skeg, prop and lower unit able to be raised out of the water without using engine trim.  With the Porta Products’ IC Hydraulic Transom Lift System, the OXE diesel outboard engine can be elevated up to 22 inches with a click of a switch by the workboat operator.  The design of the Porta Industrial /Commercial /Governmental (ICG Series) boasts big numbers.  Its load capacity is 1,500 lbs. per engine and has a horsepower maximum of 1,000 per engine. One of the secrets is in the previously patented hinge design.  As the transom bracket moves in an upward direction, the amount of bearing surface increases and becomes 5 times greater than any other guillotine style of moveable transom plate.  The hinge system is the backbone of the Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift System.  It sits submerged in most applications, so the maintenance free design is paramount to its longevity and customer appeal.  Scott Porta mentioned, “We have customers who have used their original Porta Transom Bracket for over 20 years mounted on up to 5 boats and still have not been required to perform any service.  For us that translates into happy users and product testimonials.”

The industrial market has wrapped its arms around the Porta Transom Lift.  One would think that a product that holds multiple offshore world racing records wouldn’t be at home in the industrial or work boat world, but this is far from true. In a recent broadcast interview, Scott explained, “Racing tests the endurance of any product.  At 100 mph, the force on equipment shows any weakness and tells the operator where to look for change.”  No change is necessary for the Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift System.  Scott continues, “We run basically the same design in our 100+ mph racing version (R-Series) as we do in our industrial commercial governmental category products (IC Series).

  • ****** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ******

November 1, 2022, New Smyrna Beach, FL; Scott Porta, 11-time Offshore Racing Champion, is planning to make a splash at the International WorkBoat Show, November 30 – December 2 in New Orleans.

Coming off the 2022 RWO Championships, where he did not race this year but instead served as radio and television expert commentator, Scott Porta changed gears and headed to the famed New Orleans based WorkBoat Show.  It may seem like an odd fit, but the fastest man on the planet in outboard offshore catamarans is putting his product engineering toward the slowest vessels on the US waterways: workboats.  Scott’s 33 years of owning and operating Porta Products Corporation is geared to succeed perfectly in this new opportunity.

In a recent broadcast interview, Scott explained, “Racing tests the endurance of any product.  At 100 mph, the force on equipment shows any weakness and tells the operator where to look for change.”  No change is necessary for the Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift System.  Scott continues, “We run basically the same design in our racing version (R-Series) as we do in our industrial category products (ICG Series)."

Scott mentioned, “We have customers who have used their original Porta Transom Bracket for over 20 years mounted on up to 5 boats and still have not been required to perform any service.  For us that translates into happy users and product testimonials.”

The new overall excitement comes from the advent of the new gasoline and diesel outboards with horsepower ratings up to 600 each.  To raise multiple engines of that size up to 22 inches with a click of a switch in seconds is magical to the workboat operator.  The design of the Porta Industrial /Commercial /Governmental (ICG Series) boasts big numbers.  Its load capacity is 1,500 lbs. and has a horsepower maximum of 1,000 per engine.

One of the obvious users of Scott’s high-performance, high-speed vessel experience is the emergency and pursuit boat builder.  With the Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift System, the vessel can gain immediate speed and handling by being able to raise the lower unit and propeller vertically without using the engine trim.  As an example, fire departments, police departments, and water border patrol needs are wildly varied.  The vessel must be able to operate at high speed and then go to ultra-shallow water in a moment’s notice depending upon the needs.  The Porta equipped vessel can offer that to the operator.

Another strong and emerging market is the Barge category.  The waterline on an unloaded barge to a loaded barge can vary 2 feet quickly.  The Porta equipped barge can move the entire engine up to 22” without trimming.  This keeps the outboard from submerging and dunking the powerhead in rough seas.  Only the “parallel style” Porta Transom Lift System can accomplish these requirements.

In Booth # 759 on the main floor of the International WorkBoat Show, several Porta Hydraulic Transom Lift Systems will be on display.
