Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc., of East Boothbay, Maine specializes in the construction of steel and aluminum vessels. The yard began building fishing boats in 1977 and has continued to prosper by diversifying its capabilities, developing innovative designs and building techniques, and reaching out to new markets. Washburn & Doughty has delivered of a diverse mix of commercial passenger vessels, tugs, fishing boats, barges, ferries and research vessels. Washburn & Doughty builds boats in a state-of-the art shipyard that was completed in June 2009. The building features modern equipment and a layout that maximizes efficiency. It measures 225’ x 155’ and is designed with two construction bays, each equipped with two, twenty-ton cranes. A central, two level mezzanine contains shop space and offices for production support. This 42,000 sq. ft. facility is designed for vessels up to 200’ long by 50’ wide. In 2014, Washburn & Doughty expanded production capacity with the addition of a 70" x 120" fabrication building. Recent deliveries include the JANE MCALLISTER and SEAWAY TRIDENT. Currently, the yard is building two 93' Z Drive Tugs for McAllister Towing and two 86' Z Drive Tugs for Moran Towing.
