Almost all of our projects require USCG and ABS submittals and approvals. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with both the USCG and ABS while working on projects for both private and government clients. We have been involved in changes to regulations on multiple occasions. BHGI worked hand-in-hand with USCG and ABS during the design and construction of the first LNG bunker barge in North America. During the design stage of a USACE diesel electric hybrid debris recovery vessel, BHGI partnered with USCG and ABS to determine the rules and processes for vessel classification and regulatory review, developed design deliverables for submittal to those same regulators, and then responded to questions and comments to achieve classification and regulatory approval. BHGI has also gone through the standard regulatory submittal process for multiple recent programs, including USACE Wicket Lifter; a 399’ x 74’ x 30’ 80,000 BBL double hull oil barge and 120’ x 40’ x 18’-6” twin screw ocean service tug for Conrad Industries; a 5,000 ST DWT deck cargo barge for General Dynamics Electric Boat, and more. Each program has presented its own unique classification and regulatory challenges, and BHGI has worked with USCG, ABS, and other stakeholders to help guide the projects through concept, design, construction, and service.
