Tees White Gill Thrusters provide full continuous thrust through 360 degrees to move a vessel in any desired direction, independently of ship speed. The bow or stern thrusters can be used as a completely independent means of propulsion and can be powered by any engine or electric motor of the required capacity. All units are manufactured to the Survey Society standard as required (e.g. ABS, Lloyds). The units consist of an axial flow pump mounted within the hull with only two moving elements - a bronze pump rotor and a cast rotatable vaned discharged deflector. This proven design ensures long life, trouble free operation and ease of maintenance. Rugged construction and dependable, trouble free operation make the Tees White Gill Thruster ideally suited for all types of ocean going and coastal vessels, harbour craft and river boats. Providing precise maneuverability, our thrusters are also ideally suited to all dynamic positioning (DP) vessels.

 Products

  • T3S - VERTICAL SHAFT THRUSTER
Our most popular and powerful design, the T3S model is available up to 2120kw and is also offered with our “quiet rotor” option...

  • This particular design requires installation within a flooded seachest, taking in water through intake grates in the ship’s hull before being drawn into the thruster and discharged through the flush mounted deflector.

With installations in vessels world-wide, including many for NOAA and the US Navy, our T3S unit has recently been chosen for integration on the British Polar Research Vessel - RRS Sir David Attenborough, which is equipped with four 60T3S units.

We manufacture our vertical shaft units in 6 sizes, providing a range of static thrust from 2200kg to 20000kg.

  • CS - Cross Shaft Thruster
Our Tees White Gill cross shaft thruster (CS) has a static thrust from 1003kgs to 6974kgs, and as our most compact design, is an excellent choice for retrofit applications, or those with limited spaces - such as canal or river barges...

  • The name ‘cross shaft’ reflects its design feature - the vertical steering shaft is sited on the same end as the horizontally mounted rotor shaft, with both shafts crossing one another.

The steel fabricated unit is welded directly to the vessel’s hull and fabricated seachest, considerably reducing installation costs.  With options for intakes on either the baseline or side shell to suit your vessel’s hull design or ship’s needs, this design is a flexible and versatile option.

  • HJP - Horizontal Shaft Thruster
A completely self-contained unit, our horizontal shaft unit, HJP, requires no additional seachest, allowing for a simple installation
    ...

  • Unlike our T3S unit, the rotor shaft is mounted horizontally, with the vertical steering shaft driving the discharge deflector directly to provide our signature 360° manoeuvrability in all conditions.

Water is drawn into the heart of the unit through the integrated intake grille before then passing through the static guide vanes to smooth out the imparted swirl. It is finally expelled through the unit’s deflector.

We manufacture the HJP thruster in a range of sizes to suit your requirements. With units available with a static thrust output up to 7 tonnes, our HJP is a great choice for many vessel types.

  • Steering & Controls
Built to comply with international marine standards, our modern control system is designed and built to be user friendly and intuitive for easy operation and maintenance for your crew....

  • BRIDGE CONTROL PANEL

Our drop-in, manual control panels are supplied for installation into the wheelhouse, bridge wings or aft control stations. With a 360˚ rotatable control head for thruster azimuth and speed control, as well as multi-screen HMI providing all the required indicators, our control panels provide easy and precise control of our thrusters.

    STARTER AND CONTROL CUBICLE

Our starter and control cubicle is also designed to be user friendly. Floor mounted and IP55 rated, our control cubicle houses all PLC equipment to control everything, including thruster start, running and alignment, plus AC variable speed steering drive and all other thruster functions - all accessed via the external multi-screen HMI. It also has the facility to interface with any remote ship systems, including dynamic positioning, joystick, voyage data recorder and any alarm monitoring systems.

    STEERING MOTOR

Our fan cooled, reversible, electric steering motor mounts directly onto the thrust unit and is geared to rotate the discharge deflector in either direction at approximately 6 rpm, allowing a 180° change of direction in around 5 seconds. Controlled via our AC variable speed drive, the steering motor provides precise positioning for all manoeuvring operations.

Mounted to the steering motor is a gear driven transmitter to provide azimuth feedback to our control panels, and any integrated joystick or dynamic positioning system.
