Description

Paul Nazzaro, Supply Chain Liaison, Clean Fuels, will lead a panel of regional supply specialists to discuss what is on many marketers’ minds: “Will there be sufficient biodiesel to meet the new mandate requirements throughout New England and MidAtlantic heating oil markets?"

With adequate preparation and intelligent supply guidance from regional fuel wholesale terminal operators, blends of B5 shouldn’t be challenging to meet the initial requirement defined in specific state mandates.  According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the country currently produces some 2.4 billion gallons of biodiesel.  Total heating oil sold in Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York averages 1.4 billion gallons a year according to EIA, so a B5 will only require a supply of 68 million gallons of biodiesel.  But at a B20, 280 million gallons of biodiesel will be required to comply with a mandate, which is a modest percentage of total U.S. biodiesel production for just these three states now mandated.

This session focuses on where biodiesel is produced domestically, and how both domestic and imported biodiesel will ramp up and accelerate supply as the industry navigates to higher and higher blends necessary to meet the goals outlined in the Providence Resolution in 2019. Additionally our supply chain leadership panelists will reveal strategies to avoid supply disruption as competing markets for biodiesel and renewable diesel draw off production capacity over the next 3-5 years. With widespread support from heating oil dealers systemwide the industry can succeed to ensure competitive supply of high quality biodiesel makes its way to a terminal near you.
