    Las Vegas, August 2, 2022. Visitors to the IBIE 2022 Baking Expo in Las Vegas can gain an overview on how bakery products are packed safely and sustainably at the Syntegon booth 325 from September 18-21. With the Kliklok ACE carton erector, the Pack 202 horizontal form, fill and seal machine and the CBS-D band sealer, the machine experts present three machines that support bakery manufacturers in processing a wide range of different bakery products, such as cookies, cakes, donuts or bars, in a sustainable way. “Visitors to the IBIE trade show will get an impression of the brands that come together under the common Syntegon roof: Doboy, Elematic, Kliklok, Osgood, Sigpack and Woodman. With our versatile portfolio, we offer solutions from standalone machines to complete packaging systems,” says Dave Wood, Product Sales Manager at Syntegon. Syntegon values continous improvement and adresses future-oriented topics such as sustainability in the bakery sector: Whether it is reducing material consumption, switching to alternative materials or modifying sealing processes – the experts facilitate the way towards more eco-friendly packaging.

    Product protection is sustainable

    Sustainability endeavors not only protect the environment, but also the products. At the IBIE booth, Syntegon showcases three technologies that combine sustainability with product protection for sensitive foods. Visitors can take a closer look at the Kliklok ACE carton erector that uses the innovative lock-style technology to fold glue-free paper trays for cookies – and enables manufacturers to replace plastic with recyclable paper. Afterwards, the cookie trays are fed into the horizontal flow wrapper Pack 202 that packages them in pillow pouches made from mono-material films. Alternatively, manufacturers can opt for paper flow wraps by integrating the “paper-ON-form” retrofit kit into their existing form, fill and seal machines.

    When it comes to sustainability, not only do alternative materials play an important role, but also new sealing technologies are crucial to making food packaging more environmentally friendly. At IBIE, Syntegon demonstrates how the CBS-D band sealer for vertical and horizontal formats creates tighter seals and thus effectively reduces material consumption. It also features PTFE-coated fiberglass sealing bands that ensure high-quality sealing and minimize machine wear and maintenance.

    The processing and packaging experts continously rethink packaging and focus on Research and Development to make bakery production processes more sustainable. Besides technologies that reduce the amount of conventional plastic packaging, solutions such as the recently launched DCS discharge station for cookies, crackers and biscuits, also avoid product waste: thanks to its gentle handling using belt slides, manufacturers can prevent product breakage – and thus the waste of valuable resources.

    Predictability thanks to Service Agreements

    What is more, continous improvement at Syntegon does not only apply to machine equipment, but also to innovations concerning Services and Digital Solutions. The company now offers revised Service Agreements on different levels including services such as maintenance, spare parts management, remote service and training.   • ERGONOMIC LOW-LEVEL CARTON HOPPER
    The carton hopper on the ACE is the lowest we’ve ever placed on a former. Loading is easy and at a comfortable height for cart-to-hopper carton transfer, whether it’s with one, two, or three heads.

    NEW PATENTED FLEX FEEDER
    The new feeder on the ACE provides guaranteed positive carton control through a two-stage process. Cartons are picked from the hopper and placed in a holding area. Carton pushers positively move the cartons to the forming cavity, where they are formed and released onto a conveyor.

    LOCK AND/OR GLUE FORMING
    The ACE offers the greatest production line flexibility by being able to run lock-formed and/or glue-formed carton on one machine, and the glue system does not need to be removed to run lock-formed cartons. Ultrasonic sealing capability adds another level of versatility.

    SCALABLE, FLEXIBLE, AND ACCESSIBLE
    The ACE has a small footprint – just 8.6 m2 (92 ft2) – but can accomnodate a wide size range, with one, two, or three heads, for top speeds of 240 cpm.   • HIGH SANITATION LEVEL
    All product contact surfaces are approved for food contact with high use of stainless steel. The infeed, finwheels, and cutting head are cantilevered for sanitation and a high amount of stainless steel parts are incorporated in the standard execution. Sloped surfaces on the infeed enable debris to drop through and the longitudinal sealing finwheels are built in separate hygienic housings.

    Syntegon finwheel and crimper seal technology provide superior seal integrity. The registration eye correction precisely positions printed film on the package and minimizes film waste.

  • QUALITY COMPONENTS FOR QUALITY SEALS
    The CBS-D 750 comes standard with stainless steel construction of the mainframe and bridges. The wide-gap undercarriage plate, constructed from FDA-compliant coated aluminum, reduces head-space requirements allowing for smaller bag tops and material savings. The open frame design with polycarbonate guarding allows easy access and increased operating visibility for production and maintenance personnel. PTFE-coated fiberglass sealing bands provide superior seals and greatly reduce machine wear and maintenance.

    SAFE & EASY OPERATION
    All controls and adjustments are easy to use and set up. Floor stand is adjusted with a hand-crank for ideal operating height. Front guard doors are equipped with a safety interlock which stops the machine when the doors are opened and provides access to the sealing section. Sealing bands are easy to change without tools and can be done in less than two minutes!

    AC DRIVE
    The CBS-D 750 is a mid-range sealer that features the same drive system as our larger band sealers. This powerful and reliable combination features variable frequency speed control with a standard speed range up to 25m (1,000“) per minute. Bag speed is precisely controlled from the operator panel. With the direct drive design, there is nothing to lubricate and no belts or chains to replace.

    DIGITAL PRECISION TEMPERATURE CONTROL
    The CBS-D 750‘s control system is a state-of-the-art digital temperature controller. Mounted in the operator panel, the controller provides precise control of the heat bar temperature. The heat bars reach set temperature in minutes and maintain the set point resulting in error-free seals.

    BAG TOP CONTROL FOR QUALITY SEALS
    Full length 12mm (1/2“) urethane timing belts grip the bag top and provide positive timing and speed control as the bag top travels through the fully adjustable heat bars, compression wheels and cooling bars of the sealing section, resulting in strong, quality seals. Bags weighing less than three pounds don‘t require a support conveyor.

    SEALING SECTION

    • Heat Bars - One pair of 190mm (7.50") long precision machined aluminum heat bars produce a 6mm (1/4") wide seal. Ceramic insulators contain the heat and are spring-loaded adjusted for different bag thicknesses. 
    • Compression Wheels - One pair of adjustable spring-loaded compression wheels create the pressure needed to seal gusseted bags with ease. 
    • Cooling Bars - One pair of 5" long adjustable, cast aluminum, spring-loaded cooling bars with stainless steel cover and blower fan to set seals for immediate bag handling.
