  • W+D BICMA Hygiene Solutions with a new sustainability concept

With the innovative "Green Manta" concept, tons of plastic foil can be saved

Neuwied, Germany – February 2022 — At the beginning of 2022, BICMA Hygiene Technologie GmbH was integrated into Winkler+Dünnebier GmbH (W+D) and all business activities were brought together at the headquarters in Neuwied. The joint W+D BICMA Hygiene Solutions brand will be retained for the hygiene sector in the future.

The new "Green Manta" module from W+D BICMA now combines the expertise of the two W+D segments Mail Solutions and Hygiene Solutions and creates an environmentally friendly and efficient individual packaging for hygiene articles that is made of paper. As for example, around 25 million square meters of plastic film are used for individual packaging of night napkins in the course of a year - this corresponds to an area of almost 3,500 football pitches! Thus, sustainability and avoiding plastic waste are topics of increasing urgency in the disposable personal care industry.

Paper is a renewable and biodegradable, ecological raw material and in order to avoid this plastic waste, W+D combines the best of both corporate worlds: Green Manta has replaced the previous PE individual packaging with a flat paper bag, similar to a small envelope. The production takes place in one step: from the production and folding of the hygiene product to the insertion into the also inline manufactured bag. This type of packaging is suitable for panty liners, pads and light incontinence products. W+D BICMA also offers this concept for retrofitting existing machines of all brands.
