Through microfluidic technology and integration, Erbi Biosystems have miniaturized large-scale bioreactors to the milliliter scale for process development for both bioprocess and cell therapy customers. In just 2mL working volume the Erbi Breez is able to achieve and maintain high cell densities (>250M cells/ml) for over 30 days with integrated pH, DO, temperature and cell density control. The system has already been used with CHO, T cells, Pichia, E. coli, HEK 293, Sp/2. The system employs a sterilized, single-use microbioreactor cassette, with fully integrated fluid supply bottles for quick set up and take down. In the space of 16 linear inches, the system has 4 PODs that operates independently and controlled from a powerful software that makes it easy to set up experiments, monitor and control the PODs and microbioreactor.
This technology enables control and parallelization with perfusion culturing. By reducing the reactor volume to 2 milliliter, the same experiments can now be performed with minimal sample and media volume requirements, faster setup times (minutes instead of hours), less space, and in parallel with minimal overhead.
