Building Transparency is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed in 2020. Its core mission is to provide the free, open-access data, tools and programs necessary to enable broad and swift action across the building industry in addressing embodied carbon’s role in climate change.

  • Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3)
EC3 is a free, easy-to-use open-access tool that allows benchmarking assessment and reductions in embodied carbon per material category, focused on the upfront supply chain emissions of construction materials....

  • EC3 is Building Transparency's cornerstone tool. It includes the first searchable, sortable, fully digital and standardized database of global Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). The tool helps building owners, architects, designers, construction companies, material suppliers and policymakers directly measure, compare and reduce the embodied carbon of the products they purchase, specify, manufacture and procure.

EC3 can be implemented in both the design and procurement phases of a construction project to look at Upfront Embodied Carbon Emissions.

Users of the tool are spurring the movement toward better buildings - guided by critical data and insights. Become a user for free today (and every day)! Sign up here

    EC3 by the Numbers:

    Today, the tool:

    • Contains over 100,000 global product EPDs across materials categories
    • Boasts more than 25,000 users from over 70 countries
    • Supports over 2,200 building projects
    • In markets where EPD data currently exists, Building Transparency is seeing 30% or more reductions in carbon emissions by using the tool to select and procure low carbon materials.
  • Tally: The Life Cycle Assessment App
Tally allows architects and engineers to quantify the environmental impact of building materials for whole building analysis, as well as comparative analyses of design options....

  • Tally® is the first Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) app that lets you calculate the environmental impacts of your building material selections directly in Autodesk® Revit®.

This powerful plug-in allows building professionals to gauge the environmental impacts of their materials choices in real-time at pivotal points in the design process.

In 2021, Tally’s creators and developers, KieranTimberlake, gifted the Tally Revit plugin to Building Transparency to continue its management and chart a course for the tool to be free and open access.

Tally will continue to be supported in its current form with its current data and fee structure for users of the plug-in who want to continue to utilize it for continued reporting and design improvements. This includes the ability to export the Tally model quantities to the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool to enable users to prioritize low embodied carbon decisions in specifications, procurement and construction.

  • Tally Climate Action Tool beta
tallyCAT beta is the initial socialization of a carbon reduction Revit
application that seamlessly works with EC3....

  • tallyCAT beta is the initial socialization of a carbon reduction Revit application that seamlessly works with EC3. The beta version – like Building Transparency's EC3 tool – is free and open access. It allows for synchronization between EC3 and Revit, meaning users can identify carbon reduction opportunities and access all the benefits of EC3 directly in Revit. It also supports the export of material quantities from Revit to EC3, helping users save time and focus on carbon reduction efforts.
