The Evolution of Exploration, Recent Significant Global Deepwater Discoveries, and the Look Forward
Thursday, October 10, 2019: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
DescriptionThis talk looks at key factors impacting global exploration activities, and how exploration has adjusted since the price downturn. Exploration has shifted away from the Frontier areas to Backyard and Discovery Corridors, and to an increase in leasing activities as explorers reload their inventory for the future. Several key exploration areas that have received focused exploration attention in 2017-2019 such as Alaska, Newfoundland/Nova Scotia, the Gulf of Mexico, Trinidad/Guyana/Suriname, Senegal/Mauritania/Morocco, and big gas in Easter Mediterranean are discussed. Then the talk looks to the future by reviewing some important deep water exploration wells that remain to be drilled in 2019, and their potential impact on further drilling and leasing. The talk closes by looking at a few other interesting areas around the globe that are very likely to receive exploration attention beyond 2019, and drilling within the next two to three years.
