Description

An education succeeds when a teacher graduates out of a learner’s life and the learner never graduates form the act of learning. To achieve this, students must master how to learn effectively, which enables them to consciously process information, think critically and creatively, monitor, and control their learning process and become a productive member of society, regardless of the career they pursue. For educators to produce successful learners, they must be trained in the science of learning and apply it effectively to their teaching. This workshop will explore how schools can bolster their ability to foster successful independent learners by distilling the science of learning and teaching into actionable steps that complement their school’s mission and values. This active learning experience models key principles from adult learning theory and the Science of Learning while providing school leaders and educators with actionable science-based strategies to bolster teaching and learning in their schools. The workshop is designed using learning theory from cognitive science to model application of research to instruction. Educators will leave curious about the Science of Learning with literature for continued exploration and strategies they can use immediately. Educators will learn about neuroplasticity, metacognition, memory and retrieval. Examples of classroom application will be provided throughout. FETC Workshops require an additional registration fee or premium registration. All workshops are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) for hands on participation.
