Description
The Internet of Things (IoT), facial recognition, biometrics and other examples - these technologies have already arrived in many K-12 educational organizations in the United States. These technologies can bring a plethora of benefits to students, but they also bring a plethora of legal considerations that may not be evident when initially implemented. For example, if facial recognition software is used in a disciplinary action against a student, would that evidence stand if it were central to the case, and the student protested or appealed the action? In this session, we will look at a number of scenarios like this and discuss possible actions, including policies and procedures to follow when implementing these technologies, that may mitigate the legal ramifications that may occur when appropriate policies and procedures are not in place.
