Description

America's schools find themselves in a formidable spot – the youth mental health crisis now represents one of the greatest public health challenges educators have encountered. Data from the American Academy of Pediatrics, CDC, and Youth Risk Behavior Survey all confirm that school operations may be well intended, but have fallen short of student mental health needs, especially for specific cohorts of children that demonstrate higher risk. This reality places schools in an unenviable position: Help solve the youth mental health crisis despite limited resources and qualified providers. Fortunately, there are options to consider. Preventative mental health can be embedded into classes, allowing staff to leverage academic content into seamless discussions of self-esteem, self-efficacy, and relationships. A longitudinal healthcare study of 720 scholastic gaming students (34 schools) demonstrates substantial improvement in mental health for gamers exposed to embedded SEL. Come learn why and how to implement this at your school!
