This session will show district leaders, building administrators, and classroom teachers how to build an engaging and successful student media festival. It can be done in a district or a single classroom. Take away Google doc templates, rubrics, and web designs. Festivals celebrate and promotes great work. Student voice has never been more important! Think speeches, red carpet, parent paparazzi, and an engaged community. Highlight PBL, authentic assessment, community pride. Target specific curriculum, skills, or grades. Spur media literacy, environment awareness, or innovative new mediums like AR/VR, 3D printing, AI. Nuts-and-bolts from mission-building to rubrics to red carpet. Scaffold festivals from selected online resources. The How's and Wow's of building your festival, including how to do online judging, organize entries, build a rubric, and score a project. Lessons from the 57-year old California Student Media Festival. It has been replicated across the country. Models for both virtual and in-person.
