PRE 4 | Leveraging Parent Counseling and Training
Friday, April 16, 2021: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Speaker(s)
Description
The COVID-19 emergency revealed what educators already knew: Strong parental support facilitates an LEA’s ability to provide FAPE to students, but many parents need better tools to support their child’s education. Both Part B and Part C of the IDEA invite LEAs to provide parent counseling and training when parent training is necessary for FAPE, and liability can arise when parents are denied participation. Attorney William Zee will translate the theory of parental participation into a practical component of every child's IEP by demonstrating how and why a trauma-informed and comprehensive education plan requires parent involvement. Attendees will learn how to incorporate parent training and counseling into students' plans and will recognize the ways in which parental participation can facilitate as well as create barriers to student learning.
Pre- and Post- Institute Symposiums are not included in the Main Conference Pass rate and require an additional fee to attend. Refer to https://www.lrpinstitute.com/register for more information.
