Description

Why do so many children struggle to learn to read? While human brains are inherently wired to learn to speak, learning to read requires fundamental changes in brain organization. A "rewiring" of the brain must take place for students to learn to read. This can be especially challenging for our special education students.  Join Dr. Vera Blau-McCandliss, a Cognitive Neuroscientist, as she explores this research and the impact on student learning over time. Warren School District (TN) Special Education Director Candice Willmore will share how they’ve brought the science of teaching reading to her district & incorporated multisensory, multimodal approaches in both the classroom and home.
