Whittemore Company’s roots can be traced back to 1919 originally as a producer of feed, coal, and grain. It wasn't until 1949 that Whittemore began expanding perlite and has since been the longest continuously operating perlite expansion facility in the United States. Expansion processing of vermiculite was added in 1993, as well as a blending production line for custom products. Today the company manufactures a wide range of standard and customized products that are used in variety of market applications in the horticultural, construction and industrial sectors.
