Profile
I have sailed the seven seas in a six foot cutter sailboat; hot-air ballooned with Steve Fossett; dissected the atom and found the gene responsible for Alzheimer's. I have had several Elvis sightings; appeared in Congress; proofread the dictionary; and whipped up gourmet meals in a Martha Stewart fashion. I have made Mac and Cheese, changed a diaper, and fielded a flying block all in the same split second. I have decorated in Feng-Shui style; improved the development of an electric car; helped fight forest fires; corresponded with the British Prime Minister, and I have advised Stephen Spielberg. But... I have not yet been to Decatur, IL.
While doing all of the above, I earned a degree in Mathematics with a teaching certificate from Illinois State University in Normal, IL. I taught math at Bloomington High School, was an Actuary at State Farm, and, since 1990, I have taught math at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, IL, and I am the Math Department Chair.
Teaching Awards and Recognitions:
NCHS Alumni Foundation Exemplary Service to Education Award (2019). I had the honor of being the fifth teacher to receive this award (established in 2015.)
Wal-Mart/SAM’S Club Teacher of the Year for the greater Bloomington/Normal area (2006). I was selected from a large pool of Central Illinois candidates that were submitted by students and/or parents. This award came as a complete surprise to me in an all-school assembly. I had no clue that such an award existed.
DisneyHand Teacher Awards Nominee and Finalist (2005)
Girl Scouts Educators’ Recognition Award Program (2006)
It has been my honor to have The Centrix (The Central Catholic Yearbook) dedicated to me twice (2006 and 2019); an honor voted for and chosen by the student body.
And now I can say that I've been to Ft. Worth, TX. But... I have not yet been to Decatur, IL.
