  • Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire applies Bridgestone’s state of the art Pulse Groove Technology for enhanced overall wet performance.

Bridgestone Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire provides a 7% shorter braking distance in wet conditions and a 13% bigger contact patch on the rear than its predecessor.

The new tire’s dedicated GT tire line for middleweight and heavy motorcycles also comes with improved wet performance and grip, plus an increase of 10% in wear life compared to predecessor.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 15, 2020) – Bridgestone Americas (Bridgestone) is announcing a new benchmark in motorcycle’s sport touring category: the new Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire. The T32 tire, alongside the dedicated T32GT tire line for middleweight and heavy motorcycles, brings together everything the sport touring category needs in terms of performance, confidence and contact feel in all weather conditions.

    Next-generation wet weather performance

One of the Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire’s standout benefits is its improved overall wet performance versus its predecessor, the Battlax Sport Touring T31 tire. This is thanks to several new and innovative features in the tire’s design and compound technology.

The tire applies Bridgestone’s state of the art Pulse Groove Technology, which combines pulse-shaped grooves with small center deflectors to equalize waterflow in comparison with a

straight groove to optimize the waterflow’s speed. This in turn helps improve water channeling and drainage across the tire, which enhances grip and adhesion and reduces the tire’s slip ratio in wet conditions. A video explaining Pulse Groove Technology can be found at

    https://www.bridgestonemotorcycletires.com/en-us/blog/pulse-groove-video.

The impact of Bridgestone’s Pulse Groove Technology on the Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire’s wet weather performance is complemented by an increased groove ratio and a 13% larger contact patch on the rear tire to increase overall contact area and connection to the road compared to its predecessor.

The Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire’s wet weather accolades unite to give the tire a wet braking performance that is 7% shorter than its predecessor, with no sacrifice on wear life.

The technical upgrades on the Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire are not only visual. Construction and compound modifications give the sport touring tire outstanding handling capabilities in the dry and wet, plus excellent high speed, straight and cornering stability.

    A fully dedicated GT line

For middleweight and heavy touring motorcycles, Bridgestone has developed a fully dedicated Battlax Sport Touring T32GT tire, with technical features and a pattern design in line with the requirements for this very specific motorcycle category.

The GT version also incorporates Bridgestone’s state of the art Pulse Groove Pattern Technology, alongside an optimized groove positioning and construction for the optimal pattern stiffness required for middleweight and heavy motorcycles. These benefits, along with other performance features, enable an improved wet performance and grip from the Battlax Sport Touring T31 tire, plus a 10% increase in wear life.

    Incredible performance in poor conditions

Bridgestone’s Battlax Sport Touring T32 tire offers full-size line for the sport touring category. The T32 tire and T32GT tire will be available in early 2021.

“Battlax’s next-generation sport touring tires, the T32 tire and T32GT tire are the result of Bridgestone’s technical expertise and commitment to continually improve tire development,” said Jared Williams, general manager, Bridgestone Motorcycle Tire Business in the United States and Canada. “By significantly enhancing the tire’s connection with the road, the T32 tire delivers incredible performance, even in poor weather conditions, giving riders more control and confidence in the wet. These benefits are also found in the GT tire line, allowing this technology to reach more motorcyclists.”

  • NASHVILLE, TENN. (APRIL 16, 2020)

Recently, Bridgestone Motorcycle Tires played a significant part in a world record breaking attempt held at the Bridgestone Texas Proving Grounds near Fort Stockton, Texas.

After a cross country motorcycle trip in 2016, Eduardo Antillon, a professional motorcyclist from Chihuahua, Mexico, determined he was going to attempt the world record for “Greatest Distance in 24 hours on a Motorcycle (Individual).”

He achieved that goal on October 15, 2019 by completing 2,351.5 miles (3,782 kilometers) at an average 98 miles per hour on his 2018 BMW R1200GS Adventure Rallye motorcycle featuring Bridgestone ADVENTURE BATTLAX A41 tires.

After confirmation of the record was received from the World Record Academy in December 2019, Bridgestone sat down with Antillon to discuss his experience becoming a new world record holder and how Bridgestone tires made it possible.

BRIDGESTONE:  What inspired you to attempt this world record?

EDUARDO ANTILLON:  The best version of me comes out when I sit on my motorcycle and start my ride; nothing can be compared to this feeling and the effects of actions on other people when they see you doing what you love.

Some years ago, when I found myself riding in the middle of the desert in a known Baja trail, I found a group of guys doing their lifetime ride on their bikes. I can clearly remember their unbelieving faces when they knew that I came there completely alone on a solo trip riding through the country.

I knew there was something inside of them telling them that the “impossible ride” for which they were afraid of was actually possible; and this is my greatest inspiration, to inspire others; to encourage them to believe that “possible” exists. “Impossible” is more commonly known as fear, and it is the wall that restricts your potential to see what is in the next corner. Next year, I found the same guys doing the trail in different solo riding expeditions. This is what is really wonderful about riding.

BRIDGESTONE:  Why was this record important for you to achieve?

ANTILLON:  I have been riding and racing for more than 12 years and I consider the endurance races as the most challenging events of motorsport. I decided to do it because I believed I was capable of it and I felt myself properly prepared. My bike was in perfect condition and I was in good shape; it was the time to start the series of “crazy races” I planned for years. The “perfect moment” never comes. The best day to do it is today.

BRIDGESTONE:  Tell us about your experience with the Bridgestone Adventure Battlax A41 tires during your world record setting ride.

ANTILLON:  This record needed the best performance from its components, and this included the bike and tires. Bridgestone is well known in the field for its racing spirit, and this is why I decided to go with them. I tested the tires before the race day; crossing the country in a weekend. My surprise was getting unbelievable performance from the Bridgestone ADVENTURE BATTLAX A41 tires in winter, wet, road and desert conditions. This was when I decided to stay with Bridgestone.

Considering the average speed, temperatures below zero centigrade during the night, high temperatures during the day, and nonstop riding of 24 hours, none of these facts limited our record. I never lost traction or performance. I can say that Bridgestone ADVENTURE BATTLAX are the most impressive tires, capable to adapt to any condition. My exhaust system broke down after 11 hours, setting on fire, but I didn’t have to worry about the tires! During the course of the entire record we only used two sets of tires. The previous record holder used a different tire company and had to use five sets of tires.

BRIDGESTONE:  Tell us more about how you were able to set the world record. What were some of the conditions, challenges and issues you faced?

ANTILLON:  I can divide this into several categories, starting with me.

    THE PILOT

This was an experience that went beyond my expectations. It was more about a mental challenge rather than physical; my mind played an important role to stay focused during day and night. I decided to attempt this record back in 2016 after crossing the country when I knew that I could be the fastest man on a motorcycle. The feeling of freedom is what makes me put miles on my motorcycle, there is nothing else compared to it; then I decided to do this record to encourage new generations to follow their beliefs and let them know that the greatest travels starts with one single step. The most important part of this day was the encouraging support from family and friends.

The only issue was the video recording during the 18-hour mark; one of my GoPro cameras unexpectedly stopped recording and we never figured it out. There was an issue with the feeding cable which was fixed during the 2.5-hour range for refueling stops.

THE RACE TRACK - BRIDGESTONE TEXAS PROVING GROUNDS

The Texas desert is a place of extreme climate, full of wildlife. That day we had rain during the morning, extreme heat during the day and temperatures below zero centigrade during night. There is no time for quick reactions at high speeds, you need to be completely focused on you and the road.

    THE BIKE

There’s not much to say. My motorcycle ran perfectly; it was my BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Rallye 2018; a wonderful motorcycle for long adventures.

THE TIRES - BRIDGESTONE ADVENTURE BATTLAX A41

After breaking the world record I used the same tires to ride back to Mexico; a 1,600 km trip. And I have a message for all the people from Bridgestone: I don’t know what you are creating inside these walls, but please continue doing it; impressive products!

    BRIDGESTONE:  What’s next for you?

EA:  Regarding my record, I think all planning went simply perfect. The asphalt gradient analysis, fuel consumption matrix, fueling stops, dates, volunteers, etc., but I think I was stopped a little bit because of the 230kph top speed of my bike; I am considering looking for a faster motorcycle to put more miles on this title. But honestly, this is not planned to be done in the near future.

New Records? Yes, there is another record on the list. I am planning to become the fastest man on earth to connect Alaska with Ushuaia, a 25,000 km trip through the American continent (Pan-American Highway). The current non-official record is 33 days; I am planning to do it in less than 20 days, hopefully in 2020, but I’m currently looking for sponsors.

When I’m not entered in endurance racing, I enjoy enduro racing. During this year, I am racing the national series with my KTM 450. It would be great to also test Bridgestone tires on this beast. I’m also entered in the Max Acceleration Rally. This is an annual rally that consists of crossing part of Mexico in less than 24 hours. This is a 2,400 km ride. It will occur in March 2020 and we are subscribed.

Of course, we will be using Bridgestone ADVENTURE BATTLAX tires.

  • NASHVILLE, TENN. (APRIL 5, 2020)

The results are in, and the Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 is the winner! Don’t take our word for it. This comes straight from Motorrad magazine’s recent sports tire test comparing the S22 to the Continental Sport Attack 3, Dunlop Sportsmart MK3, Metzeler Sportec M7 RR, Michelin Power RS+, and the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II.

In the test, Motorrad put the tires through a litany of tests in both wet and dry conditions at a dedicated test facility using a Yamaha YZF-R1 as the control motorcycle.

As the successor to the hugely popular S21 tire, the Battlax Hypersport S22 provides even better dry grip without sacrificing any of the wet performance from the S21. It achieves this in a number of ways. First, the new tread pattern on the S22 features an increased groove ratio on the tire’s shoulder offering better traction in both wet and dry conditions.

Second, the new compound with an optimized resin structure developed for the S22 allows it to provide increased levels of grip at lower temperatures. In addition, the center compound of the S22 rear tire is comprised of silica particles that are even smaller than those found on other tires. The benefit is more silica in the contact patch of the tire, enabling the S22 to better grip the road in wet conditions.

Lastly, using their proprietary Ultimat Eye™ technology – the same technology used to develop racing tires for the FIM Endurance World Championship – Bridgestone engineers were able to measure and visualize how the tires react under load. The data was then used to reduce the rear tire’s slippage area compared to the S21.

All of this sounds great in theory, but Motorrad put all of these claims to the test in real-life situations. Let’s take a closer look at the areas the S22 beat its competitors.

    DRY TESTING

For the dry testing portion, Motorrad rated each tire in nine different categories:

    1.     COLD CONDITION – Tests how well the tire behaves when cold, i.e., the moment you ride out of the garage.

    2.     HANDLING – Evaluates the force required to steer the bike and maintain a line in S-shaped bends.

    3.     STEERING PRECISION – Tests the steering precision in sections of varying speed with complex corner radii. This indicates whether the bike follows the desired line or if the rider has to correct the line.

    4.     FEEDBACK – Assesses how quick and smooth the rider is able to feel the tires and bike react.

    5.     CORNER STABILITY – Tests the wobble in S-shaped curves and on uneven surfaces (tested solo and with passenger).

    6.     CORNER STABILITY SPORT – Tests the wobble in S-shaped curves and on uneven surfaces, but with large lean angle when accelerating.

    7.     GRIP DURING LEAN/ACCELERATION – Evaluates the cornering grip and transfer of force in corners of different speeds.

    8.     THRESHOLD BEHAVIOR – Tests how manageable the tire is at its performance limit.

    9.     RIGHTING TORQUE – Assesses how the bike rights itself when braking in a lean position. The rider has to counteract this reaction by pushing on the inside end of the handlebars.

In total, the S22 won or tied for first in eight of the nine categories, easily cementing its place at the top. In fact, the S22 earned a total of 140 points out of a possible 150 in the dry/sport category. In particular, the Motorrad staff were impressed with the S22’s handling and steering precision, saying the Bridgestone tire was “most striking of all” with its “precision through the curves.”

Year after year, Motorrad is continually impressed with the ability of Bridgestone tires to provide the most stable tires in tire tests, and the S22 continues the tradition started by the S20 and the S21. With the Battlax Hypersport S22, Motorrad says those who enjoy sporty riding, whether on their own local roads or at a track day “...will love the razor-sharp precision that lets them corner the bike on the tightest lines.”

All of these accolades reinforce the improvements Bridgestone has made with the S22’s tread pattern, compound, and contact area. These changes to the tire translate through the bars as feedback that gives the Motorrad test riders confidence to push harder than they traditionally would.

    WET TESTING

Dry performance is one thing, but these improvements become more dramatic when the road gets wet.  Each tire was tested in mostly the same categories as in the dry. However, Motorrad also subjected the tires to a braking deceleration test, measured its braking distance from 100 km/h, and recorded wet lap times around the test track.

The S22 tire won the handling and steering precision categories outright, which is a testament to the greater groove ratio and fine particle silica in the new compound giving the riders feedback to push.

It’s important not to overlook the fine particle silica in the S22, as it provides a tire’s elasticity and its ability to function in cold conditions. Because the silica particles are so fine, more particles make contact with the road through the tire’s contact patch resulting in three things every rider is sure to love; - better feel, improved grip, and more communication to the rider.

Bridgestone also impressed in braking distance from 100 km/h at 43.8 meters. This tied for the best stopping distance overall and bested the next competitor tire by a sizeable 3.2 meters!

Motorrad has been big fans of the S21’s wet weather performance, lauding its “predictable threshold behavior.” This was something Bridgestone engineers had to be mindful of when designing the new S22, and thankfully it didn’t disappoint with Motorrad claiming the new tire “picks up where its predecessor left off.” The new tire still earned a joint second place in the wet standings with the oft-mentioned accolade “impressive” being thrown about yet again in the magazine’s ratings.

    OVERALL

With a resounding performance in the dry weather testing coupled with a strong showing under wet conditions, it should come as no surprise that the Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tire won Motorrad’s sport tire test with an overall score of 230 out of a possible 250. The S22’s markedly improved performance in cool, dry conditions impressed Motorrad’s testers.

This should be no surprise, of course, as this was exactly the environment Bridgestone focused on when designing the S22. What was more surprising was the S22’s wet performance compared to other, newly improved competitor’s tires. This serves as a testament to how well the previous S21’s wet weather performance was designed from the beginning.

At the end of the day, even Motorrad exclaims the leading four tires in this test are admirable performers for all-weather riding. But above all, the “perfectly tuned S22 from Bridgestone...represents a major improvement on the previous S21 and S20 models.”
