Let Grow-Building childhood independence for a better future

Let Grow

If you want self-directed students at school, they need to be

self-directed children at home.

Our free school programs build social-emotional skills through the promotion of childhood independence in school, at home and in the community. The programs require no instructional time, yet have huge impacts on student behavior and agency.

THE LET GROW PROJECT is a simple homework assignment asking K—8th students to do something without adult help or supervision, maybe a household chore, or walking to a friend's house. Helping parents step back so their kids can step up has dramatic results in decreasing anxiety, increasing self confidence and building resilience and makes them better students.

LET GROW PLAY CLUB provides low or no cost mixed-age free play experiences for elementary students before or after school, where supervisors are lifeguards, rather than rule enforcers or problem solvers. Kids learn to negotiate, cooperate, and make their own fun, reducing behavior problems and office referrals, and growing a more caring school climate.
