Description

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency established JCDC—the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative—to unify cyber defenders from organizations worldwide. In August of 2023, JCDC began a series of meetings with Water and Wastewater Systems (WWS) stakeholders across government and industry to collaboratively develop a cyber defense plan for the Sector. The principal output of the planning effort was published in January, 2024: an Incident Response Guide (IRG) for the WWS Sector. The guide provides WWS utility owners and operators with information about federal roles, resources, and responsibilities for each stage of the cyber incident response (IR) lifecycle. WWS owners and operators can use this information to augment their respective IR plans and procedures. JCDC welcomes the opportunity to brief WaterPro conference participants on the guide and solicit candid feedback.

Track(s)

Learning Objectives

Learning Objective #1: Participants develop stronger familiarity with federal roles, resources, and responsibilities in the event of a cyber incident. WWS utilities can take information from the discussion and augment their own IR plans.
Learning Objective #2: JCDC has a stronger understanding of WWS utility perspectives on cybersecurity challenges and opportunities. JCDC is better positioned to conduct future planning efforts in the Sector based on discussions with conference participants.
