There are multiple ways utility personnel collect data (from handwritten to automated sensors) and share knowledge (from SOPs to word-of-mouth). But often this wealth of information is not collected in a way that is easy to share to garner insights on how to improve utility KPIs and overall operations. Furthermore, when shared with multiple stakeholders, this vast resource of intelligence can help improve existing products and practices, generate new and improved technologies, and prepare the next generation of water professionals. However, questions regarding the ownership of data and facilitating permission handling gives pause for concern, especially sharing data with external - and even internal! - entities. Interact with our panel to discuss how to best manage the collection and access of data from multiple sources and to share insights of how data sharing advances the overall operational benefits for utilities, manufacturers, and engineering practices.
