State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies

  • Booth: 1740

The State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies (SKL) is directed by Prof. Kristiaan Neyts and co-directed by Prof. Zhiyong Fan in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The SKL serves as a bridge connecting HKUST and research institutes and enterprises in mainland China to facilitate both local and national scientific development through close cooperation. Our Objectives 1. Become the leading display research center in China; 2. Collaborate with the display industry and market to develop Advanced displays and optoelectronics technology; 3. Generate intellectual properties on display and optoelectronics technology; 4. Create a world-class platform for exchanges between Chinese and foreign researchers on display research. Technology to display in I-Zone The photo-alignment technology developed at the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) offer comprehensive solutions for the industry, including photo-alignment materials, process methods, and exposure systems. Our approach employs the Photo-Induced Reorientation method, which is based on azo-dye materials. For many years, Japan has dominated the market for photo-alignment materials and processes, employing deep UV and polarized light to establish liquid crystal alignment directions. However, the associated equipment costs and ongoing maintenance can be quite high. Our approach offers a more effective solution for the display industry. A display constructed using our photo-alignment solution will be demonstrated, allowing visitors to experience the excellent viewing angle performance enabled by our technology.
