Join our elite group of healthcare professionals!

Whether you've recently graduated from optometry school or have several years of clinical experience under you belt, pursuing an optometry career in the Air Force can give you a prescription for professional, as well as personal satisfication in your life.  As an Air Force Optometrist, you'll step into a ready-made practice with a highly diverse patient population.

You'll be a highly respected member of our healthcare team, making important decisions about your patients' healthcare needs, not insurance company requirements.  You can practice your profession without worrying about overhead expenses, complicated HMO red tape, or your patients' ability to pay.  Watching your bottom line in your Air Force optometry practice means prescribing the best care possible to the heroes who protect our nation.

Your skills  will be used for ocular issues beyond simply prescribing glasses.  Airmen depend on you for their mission-oriented eye care, including aerospace and nigh vision requirements, vision conversation, and occupational eye safety.  You'll have opportunities to broaden your professional skills by working in areas such as research, teaching, medical readiness, and management.  You may also volunteer to participate in a number of worldwide humanitarian missions.

Your professional growth and development are priorities in the Air Force.  To stay current in your field, we'll give you ample opportunities to attend civilian and military seminars at no expense to you.  Plus, if you'r working on an advanced degree, our tuition assistance program will pay up to 100 percent of your costs.  Additionally, if you qualify and are selected, scholarships are available through the Air Force Institute of Technology to pursue a master's or doctorate degree full time without losing your salary or benefits.

The Air Force is committed to providing you with a quality of life and work environment that allows you to devote more time to your family and friends.  You'll discover an Air Force base is much like a small community.  If you're married with a family, you can take them along too, depending on base location and mission requirements.  The best part though, you won't lose senoirity when transferring from one medical facility to another, and you'll make lifelong friends along the way.
