ABOUT BUYBOARD

The BuyBoard delivers the vast economies of scale by combining the purchasing power of local governments, big and small, to provide members the leverage to help achieve better pricing on products, equipment, and services. Benefits of using the BuyBoard include the following:

Compliance and Transparency

Contracts and vendors awarded through the BuyBoard have been competitively procured, to assist members with compliance with Texas local and state procurement requirements and provide a documented audit trail.

Value and Choice

With a wide range of competitively procured contracts available, members will find almost everything needed to support their organization.

Efficiency and Cost Savings

Because the competitive procurement process has been completed by the BuyBoard cooperative, members may save time and resources that would have been spent on preparing and conducting a formal RFP.  Besides reducing administrative costs, members reap savings through competitive pricing - plus, member rebates.

Member Rebates

The BuyBoard cooperative has a long history of issuing rebates to members. Since 2006, the cooperative has rebated over $69 million to governmental members - a claim no other Texas-based cooperative can make. The rebate is reflective of the program's value, benefit, and non-profit administration.

Member Governed

The cooperative is governed by an 11-member board of directors, most of whom are purchasing professionals that represent members from cities, counties, schools, and higher education. The board's only function is to govern the cooperative and award all contracts directly with no delegation of authority to staff.

Support of Local Governments and Public Education

BuyBoard was created to support and serve public schools, municipalities, counties, and all types of local government agencies. That support and service is evidenced in the list of organizations that endorse the program and in turn support their respective membership.  Purchasing through the BuyBoard means your school district is helping to support the statewide organization that supports you.

(Austin, TX)—The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Cooperative), also known as BuyBoard, has announced its largest rebate to date. A total of almost $10.5 million is being dispersed to 1,091 Cooperative members including public schools, colleges and universities, and local governmental entities across Texas.

“The volume and purchasing power of BuyBoard creates economies of scale that no one public school, municipality, county, and other local government agency could achieve on its own,” said Marta Alvarez,  director of purchasing and contract management for the City of Lubbock and chair of the Cooperative's Board of Trustees.

BuyBoard provides members strength in numbers helping members pool their collective purchasing power on products, equipment, and services they use every day.

Members might also be able to save time and resources that might have otherwise been spent preparing and conducting individual, formal RFP processes.

“The purchasing power of the Cooperative drives competitive prices and reduces administrative cost. It allows us to be efficient and effective in the procurement processes and as a result, provides the best value to the taxpayer,” said Alvarez

Texas Cooperative membership has reached an all-time high of more than 3,099 governmental entities across the state.

“The continued growth in the Cooperative is a testament to the value and benefit that members receive by using BuyBoard,” said Brian Bolinger, associate executive director of Business Services for the Texas Association of School Boards, which serves as administrator for the Cooperative. “We’re extremely proud to be giving back to members like this. We’re proud to support and serve local government and public schools.”

The Cooperative has rebated nearly $70 million to eligible members since 2006. Each member’s annual purchasing activity is used to calculate the amount of their rebate.
