Description

Determining the financial impact of ergonomics interventions (single engineering improvements) and initiatives (system for managing ergonomics) to stakeholders is critical. To cost justify initiatives, EHS professionals use these five approaches: •Average cost of MSDs •Historical costs of MSDs •Manufacturing productivity improvements •Product quality enhancements •Voluntary turnover reductions A model was developed using these approaches to calculate the financial impact of an ergonomics intervention and initiative. Learn how to calculate the: •Financial impact of a proposed ergonomics intervention, and an implemented ergonomics intervention •Financial impact of an ergonomics initiative for a location, division, geography, or enterprise-wide •Cost of known MSD risk (jobs with an MSD risk assessment, without an intervention) •Cost of unknown MSD risk (jobs without an MSD risk assessment, without an intervention) •Cost of relying on a reactive ergonomics initiative

Track(s)

Learning Objectives

•Understand the common approaches used to cost justify ergonomics interventions and initiatives
•Apply a calculator/estimator to quantify the financial impact of ergonomics interventions and initiatives
•Calculate the cost of “doing nothing” to reduce your risk of developing a musculoskeletal disorder injury
