Description

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic many ergonomics programs focused on workers in corporate offices where many aspects of their workplaces, like chairs, desks, equipment and workspace were standardized. For most of the time employees mainly worked in these spaces, with only occasional home office working. Many ergonomic products focused on increasing movement activity at work, with sit-stand desks, treadmill desks etc. However, for many companies the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything, with employees mostly working remotely from home or elsewhere, and in these workspaces little is standardized. As the pandemic begins to subside many companies are looking to adopt hybrid working practices where home /remote offices are the main workplace for the majority. This presentation will describe the impact of the pandemic to date and explore how ergonomics needs to reboot both in terms of its content and delivery processes. The world of work has been forever changed by COVID-19 and ergonomics must evolve if it is to remain relevant to the future health and well-being of people.
