Why would a successful family business send away two of their own?
Some members of the Garrett family (owners of the Mission Rubber Group – parent company of hose manufacturer Purosil® ) and other close observers are asking themselves the same question. After 70 years of doing business in America, one branch of the company has sent two family members out of the US, to points abroad.
Did these two family members manage to fatally anger Purosil’s CEO? Have they burned all bridges behind them and been sent as far from the family business as possible? What sordid family drama occurred behind closed doors to cause the only 4th generation family members working for Purosil to be exiled?
Purosil CEO Dr. Tom Garrett PhD, 3rd generation family member, will tell you the answer is simple – Growth!
Purosil Growing Globally
Since 1950, the Mission Rubber group of companies grew from a modest family plumbing business in Los Angeles, to include global rubber manufacturing, and Silicone hose company Purosil. In a time when vehicle manufacturers need trusted partner suppliers, CEO Tom says he needed trusted managers to run foreign operations, as Purosil expanded to India and Europe.
In 2020 Purosil CTO Andrew Garrett relocated to India to become Director of the new Purosil manufacturing site there, and in 2021 OEM Sales Manager Garrett Richardson became Director of the new European sales and distribution site in the Netherlands.
Both Global and Local – High tech Design and Manufacture with Small Business Service
Purosil’s India facility allows it to produce high quality Silicone hoses for transportation, delivered anywhere in the world, and the European operation in Holland can give the EU and UK markets the same direct hands-on service, parts availability, and quick response times that have been the hallmark of the American division for decades. As Purosil serves many global OEM customers, they look to find ways to give global service to them while still staying true to the core values of the family business.
It turns out that Mr. Garrett Richardson’s over 20 years within the family’s companies and Mr. Andrew Garrett’s 12 plus were not in fact a total disaster, as some sources have reported. Rather, their efforts, along with the vital support of the full team of 200 at Purosil, apparently resulted in the steady growth of the business to the point at which they were needed abroad. At the time of this report, however, some observers and other 3rd gen Garrett family members say they are ‘reserving judgment’.
