The new capital will help the Swiss SportTech startup to streamline soccer organization for amateur and professional teams, enabling coaches to focus on players, not plans
Zurich, Switzerland, October 4, 2021, – Digital soccer coaching platform coachbetter today announces the close of its seed funding round, totaling almost $1M. Investment came from the Swiss Founders Fund, TheVentureCity, and former professional soccer player, Remo Staubli. The capital will go toward developing new features, expanding the coachbetter team, and actioning the company's international strategy.
Coachbetter is an easy-to-use and affordable tool for sports clubs, players, and coaches. The subscription-based platform includes personalized training packages and activities, team management, game and training scheduling, and a wide selection of content to improve coach and athlete development. Users can also upload and share videos of their games, tag players, and annotate with feedback around technique and performance.
Administrative tasks in soccer are time-consuming and often inefficient. And as the pandemic continues to limit in-person contact and facilities, coachbetter streamlines processes, providing a clear overview of timings, locations, and players' progress, all in one place. As a result, coaches can focus full attention on what really matters; the players and the game, not the logistics.
Patrick Degen, Partner and Lead Investor at Swiss Founders Fund states"we're very excited by coachbetter's ability to support coaches as well as amateur and professional teams. Considering the company significantly increased their revenue and user base during the pandemic, there is a clear need for the platform in the digital age."
Coachbetter’s current customer base is as versatile as the platform itself. Prestigious, international clubs and academies, such as Brentford FC Women and the Steven Gerrard Football Academy use the platform to further strive digitalization and organize their teams. Coachbetter also focuses on the development of the amateur sport with more than 5000 soccer coaches in its community.
Following feedback from the community, coachbetter launched the tactic and training session design board App, "Moves - Design Your Play" in 2019, as well as the "Playbetter" App in August 2021, which allows coaches to directly communicate with its players.
“We invested in coachbetter in the midst of the pandemic when teams were unable to train due to lockdowns. Coachbetter has proven its resiliency, continuing to talk to soccer clubs and turning those conversations into users and clients once training grounds reopened" says Laura González-Estéfani, Founder and CEO of TheVentureCity.
Coachbetter co-founder and CEO Patrick Patzig, adds that “coachbetter’s goal is to change the way soccer clubs, coaches and players develop. The latest seed stage will help us to bring training quality, communication, and education to the next level.
Moving forward, Coachbetter has plans to further expand its business into the United States, where Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott (AZ) and Creighton University Women's Soccer, the reigning Big East Conference champion, are already among users of the platform. The company additionally plans to continue its development of special platform features and sections dedicated to women’s soccer.
