• Evolum+ Extruders: Profitable, smart and hygienic (Apr 05, 2022)

  Clextral’s EVOLUM+ twin screw extruders give processors maximum throughput, flexibility, and control, for top product quality, process stability and hygienic procedures. Evolum+ extruders offer:

• Filled pet foods and treats take many shapes (Apr 05, 2022)

  Dual-textured pet foods and treats with crunchy exteriors and creamy centers are produced with co-extrusion.  Petfood pillows are made with co-extrusion, is a 2-step process that combines two distinct characteristics: a crisp cereal based shell and a soft filling. The EVOLUM® pinching former offers maximum flexibility and creativity in shaping coextruded products in traditional or innovative shapes: pillows, triangles, tubes, bars, balls, sticks, ovals, diamond-shaped, and other specialty profiles.

  For these products, the crispy outer shell ingredients are mixed, cooked and processed in the twin screw extruder, while the filling ingredients are mixed and prepared in a separate recirculating tank. At the extruder, a specialized co-extrusion die is used to combine the extrudate and filling into the final product. The filling is injected and as the materials exit the die, the outer shell expands around the soft inner filling. 

  The EVOLUM® pinching former offers maximum flexibility and creativity in shaping coextruded products in traditional or innovative shapes: pillows, triangles, tubes, bars, balls, sticks, ovals, diamond-shaped, and other specialty profiles.

• Processing high meat content foods (Apr 05, 2022)

  With the trend towards the “animal first instinct” came the demand for food with fresh meat to address the carnivorous instincts of pets. This includes grain-free diets with raw meat and fish ingredients. Clextral’s Evolum extruders can be easily adjusted to the new processing parameters required to achieve the correct moisture and texture for these nutritious, high protein foods. All extruder parameters are regulated through a PLC system using Clextral’s FITSYS PLUS control software. Process control can be integrated to supervision upstream and downstream over the entire production line.

  Product safety is ensured as the combination of temperature, pressure, shear, and processing time in treating the extrudate that reduce the bacterial load (kill step) to levels in accordance with FDA-FMSA requirements. An advantage of the twin screw extruder is that it offers maximum mixing efficiency to ensure that all of the extrudate as it passes through the barrel is exposed to sufficient barrel surface area at the required parameters.

• Protein fibration offers new opportunities for pet food and pet treats (Apr 05, 2022)

  Process hearty, protein-rich foods with realistic meat fiber, taste and chewiness from multiple protein sources: plant, animal, insect and more. Many innovative products are processed in the twin screw extruder using specific screw and barrel profiles that transform the proteins into the high moisture meat analog for pet food and treats.

  Versatility is a key benefit as these products offer a wide range of physical attributes. Fibration may be in sheets or longitudinal, surface appearance: smooth, rough, shiny, matte, even, or marbled; Color: light (chicken, pork or tuna-colored) or dark (beef-colored); Texture: firm, soft, or elastic. Many flavor profiles are possible, with virtually any flavor combination, to appeal to different pet demographics.

Our Test Center in Tampa, Florida, is dedicated to developing new products and improving processes. Design, laboratory testing, prototyping, small batch processing and industrial simulation are performed independently and confidentially.

  The center is equipped with the new EVOLUM+ twin screw extruder, drying system and modular clip-on ancillaries for shaping, co-extrusion, coating (plus preconditioning, degassing, cutting, bi-coloration, laminating.) Our on-site process engineers and research scientists assist with produc tdevelopment and recommend product formulation and production platforms.
