Sorghum has a diversity of uses in agricultural, consumer, biofuel, and industrial applications. The sorghum market is dedicated heavily to the livestock industry (both ruminant and non-ruminant) based on its strong protein, fiber, micronutrient and amino acid profile. Historically, sweet sorghum was a common syrup and relish for many baked goods. As a whole and ancient grain, along with its gluten-free and non-GMO traits, sorghum provides a good source of macro and micro-nutrients. It is currently utilized in prominent pet food lines such as GNC, Victor, Newman’s Own Organics, Iams, Eukanuba, and Science Diet, to name a few, both for canine and feline sectors. Additionally, the USCP is currently funding pet health research for sorghum-based formulations in dry pet food treats!!
