The hot weather is pretty much a given in Singapore's humid climate, and your pets are probably sweating it out along with you. The Avantpet Eco Cooling Mat aims to alleviate this by keeping your dog or cat cool as they lie down on it. It comes in three sizes, S, M and L and different colors.
Quick specs
- Food safe gel approved by the FDA
- Anti-mold
- Can be chilled in the fridge
Packed with FDA-approved food safe solvent, the Avantpet mat uses PG (propylene glycol), and CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) as their gel material. It's a material that doesn't swell up when it absorbs water. Of course, that's in the event your pet decides to be naughty and bite the mat open. Avantpet claims that cheaper mats made of polymer gel will and can be lethal for pets who ingest polymer gel. My online searches found that most of the cheaper mats don't disclose what the gel is made of as well.
While reviewing the mat, it seems that my dogs weren't too keen when I tried to get them to sit on it. That's because my concrete floor was about the same temperature. If you have a carpeted home, it's likely they would probably prefer the mat instead. However, I noticed that my dogs would flock to sit on the mat when the aircon was turned on. I suspect it's because it cooled faster.
If the weather is sweltering, you can keep the mat in the fridge for about 10 to 15 minutes to chill it. This will make the mat pretty cool, but you will have to deal with condensation. Luckily, the mat has anti-mold technology, so you don't have to worry about it forming from the moisture. My butt felt cool when I sat on the mat. I wasn't a fan of using it after taking it out of the fridge though, as the condensation made my shorts wet.
